has anyone had any probs with law enforcement seeing a scanner in your vehicle? Had a problem with a local awhile back seeing a handheld, till I showed him it didnt have batteries in it (thanks to external contacts!!!) +told him im taking it to flea market (notttt). He did say the law was old enough, that if someone talked to the right politition it could prob be repealed real easy.

Wellll, that ain't exactly the case as far as getting the law changed. Back in 2000, I asked my local legislator, who is speaker pro-tem of the house, about including firefightes in the exempted category. About as far as that got, was to allow firefighters to have fire scanners in their vehicles with their chief's permission.

Police listening is still illegal, unless the police give you a letter saying its okay. The police folks were pretty adamant about not letting folks hear them.

I know of a couple of folks who had their radios taken away, but returned when they challenged the matter because they had no police channels programmed in them.

I'd say getting your ham ticket is about the safest bet to cover yourself - that's one of the reasons why I got mine. Probably the exercise of common sense and good judgment in the use of your scanner wouldn't hurt either.
