I have a 1997 suburban. I'm looking for a good durable weather station that is low profile and can be mounted on my truck. I'm looking to use it with a cf 30 toughbook that is 1.06ghz with 1gb of ram and dual core.

I'm looking to collect wind speed, temp, and possibly Doppler and I'd like to be able to transmit this info via the internet through my clear card.

Any suggestions on what I should do? I'm looking to spend $400

That's a good looking station. I thought Doppler would be pretty pricey, as long as I can detect wind speed, direction and temp in real time, ill be happy

The only non-DOW on-board Doppler setups I have ever seen were in the late 1990's/early 2000's, and were Marine Dopplers (for boats) made by JRC. IIRC, I think the on-land use of these units is actually illegal.

In any case, Davis is good quality stuff. Oregon Scientific is actually worth a look too. I had a OS weather station mounted on a collapsible roof rack Dave Drummond style on a Ford Explorer at one point, and it was an excellent station.

Of course, add another zero to the end of that figure, and you could get RM Young.

There is no such animal. There are various programs that may be used to receive radar data from NWS, but as far as on-board....not many options.

Searching for old articles will turn up some sporadic use of JRC Marine Dopplers in the late 1990's. This is highly illegal, and can interfere with actual Doppler sites.

I agree... I wouldn't even bother looking for an on-board solution as there are various software applications that can achieve this. Look at the GRLevelX software. It is a popular choice among many chasers/spotters with a lot of functionality and customization. Combined with an Allison House subscriptions for numerous place files you will have everything you could possible need. You don't have to have the AH sub but it's nice to add on to have. GR already comes with a lot of the base stuff you need. You can get place files at numerous other places if you look carefully.

As far as weather station look at the Davis Vue which has already been recommended as Davis makes solid stations. Only thing different between the two is one comes with a mobile mount and this one doesn't.

Vantage Vue® Wireless Weather Station by Davis

There are several weather station software options that will broadcast this over the internet and to CWOP or web page etc. Just depends on exactly what you want to do.

You may want to look at the specs of your computer to though as it may not be enough to run the applications you are needing efficiently. I would look at something with at least 2 GB of Ram.

This is going to overshoot your $400 budget but they are pretty much your only options for what you are wanting to accomplish.
