I recently obtained a Kenwood MC-80 desk microphone as part of an auction lot. I was really after some of the other items, and hoped to sell this one, but I discovered that it's been heavily modified. First of all, the battery holder is no longer connected - I guess it can (or has been modded to) obtain power for the preamp from a rig (or the preamp's been disabled)?
Next, a 3-position switch has been added to the exterior, and a daughter board installed on the interior. The daughter board includes a 7413 IC that presumably is used for noise control.
I've searched online and cannot located documentation of this mod or mods. Does anyone have any insight as to what's been done to this unit? Any advice on whether I (an experienced electronics technician) should try to back this mod out and attempt to restore it to its native mode - or sell it as-is? (I don't have a Kenwood to test it out; an adapter is on its way so that I can hook it up to my Yaesu.) Thanks & 73!
