Hello. I have an FT-991A. I use the "MONI" function to hear my voice when I transmit. This allows me to set the EQ for the mic. My question is why is that function unavailable (greyed out) when I am on 2m non-SSB. If I switch to either side-band while on 2m, that function becomes available.

Thank you,
Steve

FM typically has more bandwidth; AM has less and SSB less than that. When engaged, the EQ works to make the "less" sound better. You could run your audio through an external EQ for all modes and some operators do, I do not. Per the manual, the 991A offers the EQ for SSB and AM modes. FM is like having a face to face conversation, AM & SSB modes increasingly become narrow, like talking through a tube.

I did a quick search and this page explains the audio bandwidth to some degree. Jump down about halfway to "What is SSB". Single Sideband
