Any of you guys monitoring TACN in the north west GA area? Its P25 phase2. What scanner are you using and how well of a job does it do? I've heard mixed reviews on the 436. So I want to make sure I get the best radio for my area.

My experience is the 436/536 series are best available consumer grade scanners.
BTW, phase 2 not widely used yet.
Which county are you in?

Thanks for the info. I'm in Walker County and work in Whitfield. But I will also try to monitor Catoosa and Chattooga counties. It looks like the 436 may be the way to go. Do you know what system GSP is using in this area?

Thanks...

GSP is right now using 154.905/154.935, but word has it they are transitioning to a P25 VHF network - you'll find the freqs in database under Georgia State Patrol. They use TACN too, on the sheriff talk groups.
Depending on where you are in Walker, might include the Rising Fawn and Canyon Ridge sites in your scan rotation along with the NW Ga simulcast. There are pockets where some sites work and others don't like ridges and valleys.
