I am having some trouble putting the Montclair system into my scanner. I have the channels in correctly but I am getting nothing. I am in Linden so I should be able to recieve them without any problems. Is there something else I need to be putting in?

Did you enter the Custom Frequency Tables?

Didn't know I had to. How exactly do I do that? I usually program the scanner manually, but I also have win500 so which ever is easier.

Win500, custom table:

500.0000 380 569 12.5
506.0000 570 759 12.5

Read your scanner first and save your file, so, you will have it, then you can add the system, frequencies, TG's, tables, etc.

Not to be a pain in the neck, but I am still having a hard time. What number goes in what spot. I don't know what to put in the offset, base, and step areas. More or less, which number goes in what place?

Great thanks, one last question, Am I programming all three control channels (they're in now) or just the two main ones? I have all three in and I'm getting nothing.

All three, and if you have TG's programed in or a wildcard and your hearing nothing, you may be to far away to monitor that system, do you hear the control channel pretty good?

Still nothing... I have the wildcard in and all else. Like I said I'm in Linden so I should get it. I get Bayonne 5 by 5 from where I am. I even have an antenna on the outside of my house. Right now my scanners not reflecting that I am monitoring a trunked system. Oh well, I tried, thanks for the help!

I'm sure you had it set for a MOT vhf/uhf system, assigned a scan list and activated the scan list. I tried also, good luck!

Any luck getting Montclair? I wouldn't be so sure about picking them up in Linden. The system is pretty weak. I live in West Orange right over the Montclair border and reception tends to be very weak.

Nope still nothing, I've actually deleted the system from my scanner entirely. It's odd that I wasn't able to get them from here in Linden. Funny that I can pick up NYC DOC radio and hear it 5 by 5 but live closer to Montclair and nothing... Oh well. Was just trying to expand my "scanning horizons" outside of Union county. Thank you all for the help though.

The hilly terrain of Essex County definitely plays a factor. Like I said, I live right on the Montclair border and can barely pick them up. I'm also only 2 miles from Verona and I can't pick up their TRS either.

Our EDACS in Verona is the worst. Because of the way it was built "to work in Verona ONLY", and thanks to the terrain, you can use it in Manhattan, but in some parts of Verona it won't work. I'm not surprised about Montclair. Its tough to get, and I'm right next store. Same for West Orange.

I thought the West Orange system was pretty good. I live in WO now so it comes in great, but even when I lived in Jersey City I was able to pick it up with no problem.

NJEMT - can you get the West Orange system from Linden?
