MOSCAD doesn't just handle contact closures (DI/DO), it and its predecessor INTRAC were specifically designed to handle variable analog inputs and outputs (AI/AO) as well as contact closure I/O, RS232, RS422, RS485, MODBUS, ArcNet, digital pulse, AC and DC current and voltage and on and on. Flow meters, pressure transducers, level controls and monitors, motor speed controllers, positioners, temperature controllers, etc, etc, etc, all use analog I/O for primary functions and contact closures for secondary functions such as alarms and limited controls. All it takes is the appropriate I/O modules and software. This is what SCADA equipment is designed to do, and yes, it IS slow as hell, relatively speaking, but so are the processes it monitors and controls. What it's capable of doing is directly related to the size of your budget.
