To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey all I'm brand new here but have been checking posts before actually asking for help. I think for right now I'm in over my head! Let me tell you the tale of my troubles!!!

I have two different radios an XPR6350 and an XPR7550e. I have a cable for them which normally works and detects correctly on my computer. I have installed CPS 2.0 and when that didn't work I tried CPS version 16 build 823. I can not get either radio to download on either platform. I get there is a lot of interaction between firmware and versions of software to use but I can't get anything to work right. I'll post as much info as I can and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

Today is actually the first time it has failed to install the drivers properly so thats very confusing. That error happened on the 6350, but the 7550e hooked up and installed just fine with the same cable. And the message about the switch on the cable???? There isn't one and none that I looked up have any switches

What cable are you using and is it Motorola or aftermarket? Business Radio CPS is not correct software for the 7550e and I think not for 6350 either.

You say that you have CPS 16 - build 823. Why in the world are you trying to use the CPS for entry level business radios?? It is not the correct software for either XPR radio.

Your XPR7550e has the last firmware written for MotoTrbo CPS 16 - R02.09.0001 I'd start with trying to read that radio using the correct cable and CPS 16. If you have tried that and had no success - try to do a complete reboot with all other network and USB cables unplugged, and then try to read the radio.

Maybe you got confused as to what software you installed v what software you opened. CPS 16 is called MOTOTRBO CPS in the Start menu. For me, it is in the plain Motorola folder in Start. The one you showed us is in Motorola Solutions folder in Start. The icon is a very good likeness of the classic game Galaga, or Galaxian depending on your mood.

Honestly I have very little knowledge of what I'm doing, I'm learning as I go I guess. So in order of your questions....

No it's an aftermarket cable

I found the copy of CPS 16 after reading a post somewhere that it would work with the 6350. Obviously it doesn't lol.

Yes what I called CPS 16 is listed as Mototrbo CPS in my start menu, however it really hates getting used. Not only will it not read the radio it also does some funky thing where it reduces the entire window to some tiny unviewable nonsense.

This is what I meant

Off the 7550e

You likely need an older version of CPS for the 6350. Especially if your computer doesn't recognize the radio and assign an IP address when you connect it. The specific version you will need is entirely dependant on the firmware version in the radio. Seeing as it is a XPR6350, you can't see the version from the radio itself because it doesn't have a display, you will have to find and try various, older, versions until you are successful in reading the radio. Good luck.

CPS 16 should still read an old XPR6350. Aftermarket cables should be fine. I'd be more worried about the side connectors being gummed up on old radios & needing to be cleaned.

Just to be clear, the screen shots you show are NOT MotoTrbo software CPS 16. The correct part number for MotoTrbo CPS 16 is HKVN4362. There are plenty of videos on YouTube showing how to program radios and what the screens look like.

Such as: Programming an XPR6550 with CPS 16

100% dependent on exactly what firmware version the radio is at, to determine what the newest version of CPS that can be used to read and write the radio. The radio is not recognized by the computer with CPS 16 Build 823 that means the driver is either too new, or too old for CPS 16, Build823. Either he needs CPS 16 Build 828, or an older version than he currently has. With out a display, he is stuck trying different versions, until it reads.

Just to be clear -- the screen shots he is showing are NOT Trbo CPS 16. I do not believe he actually has CPS 16.

One of the screen shots does appear to be a screen shot of Radio Manager - RM for CPS 2. I wish him luck with that! I'm out.

For the XPR7550, you need CPS 16, Build 828. Build 823 does not support the firmware version in your XPR7550.
Build 823 works just fine with the 7550. I have a 7550 and 7550e running 2.09 and program then am the time with build 823.

It appears you're using a Microsoft Surface.... you wouldn't happen to have an ARM processor on that, would you?

CPS isn't for the beginner. You could really cause havoc if you set something wrong. Have you even read and understood the relevant parts of Mototrbo "system planner"?

6350’s run fine in CPS 2.0 for me anyway.
