To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all,

My XTS 3000 model 1 seems to be "cutting in an out" when I transmit through the repeater. After talking with the dispatcher in person after my transmission they stated it sounded scratchy, garbled, and like I was standing 5 ft away from the radio (even though I was right on top of it). Any thoughts? Battery is over a year old, I was well within the range of the repeater. Could the battery condtion affect the tx?

At the time I was not using a lapel mic.

Any input would help and I apologize in advance if this question has been asked before (didn't have time to do a detailed search).

thanks!

Patrick

Try talking to another radio directly [not through a repeater] & see how that sounds. That's a start. GARY N4KVE

also check that the deviation is set right. to see if the internal mic element is bad try a speaker mic. The radio may be off freq either electronically or miss programmed (especially on uhf systems).

That makes the solution simple. Replacing the internal mic would cost some money, so I would stick with the external.

You can buy a replacement XTS model I case and that comes with the mic and speaker.

also the xts3000/2500 and even the MTSX series (mts2000,8000 ht1000) all use the same mic element.

Thanks everyone for the responses. After using the radio some more it seems that even with the remote mic attached I am still getting static. It is happening on every analog channel. The static isn't constant, but occurs sporadically.

Could this be a problem that could be fixed by replacing the housing or is this a more serious problem. I am probably going to take it to the radio shop to have them look at it next week.

Thanks again!

clean all the ground traces and connections. on the logic there are a pair running along the edge where the unit sits on the housing, on the RF unit there are the 'spring type' and again a few that run along the edge of the board, pull up the ground tabs on the PA shield. Dont forget to clean the housing part as well. I use fine sandpaper but you can use the edge of an exacto knife to gently scrape away any corrosion.

Somewhere I have a memo advising that some brands of after market XTS batteries would produce exactly what you report. As I recall, best guess was that some sort of chip in the battery was leaking RF interference. I seem to recall that one brand with the problem was Honeywell, but that might not be correct. Try using a Motorola OEM battery.

Interesting. I am using a Motorola battery. I have tried two different batteries to see if the battery was causing the problem and am still having the same issue. I'll see what the radio shop has to say when I go next week.
