I am trying to figure out what type of system a company uses in my area and I found out that they use Motorola Radius's. Does anyone know what type of systems these can be used for? Can they be used for LTR? I don't know what band the company is using.

There are several ways to find out. One is checking the internet for local scanner frequencies for your area to see if the company you are looking for is listed. Assuming that you have seen one or more of their employees with the Radius Radios that you are inquring about, here's something to look for. If the radios that you see them using have a thick antenna, about the thickness of a magic marker and about 5 or so inches tall, then they would be for the VHF band. If they are of the same height antenna-wise, but are as thin as a pencil per se, then the radios would be on a UHF frequency. Or, if you can afford the extra $$$, i would get a frequency counter, as in a Opto-Electronics Scout, or something comparable, and see if you can't catch one of their radio's frequencies. But lest i get too far off topic. Just my thoughts though....Good Luck and best wishes to one and all.

I didn't know that there were different Radius's (like mobile and handheld). I figured it would be like the Spectra, but anyways, I saw a mobile, so couldn't really tell what frequency it was on. It looked like a M212. I am not sure if it is UHF or VHF. Do they have 800 or 900 MHZ Radius's? I do have a BC 246T but haven't "captured" their frequency yet. I would probably say that they were on a LTR system, but I don't know if Radius's support LTR mode. I am about to search the Motorola website and see if I can find any info on one of the Radius's that I saw.

The schools where I live use Radiuses. They are no longer produced by Motorola and have been replaced by the CP200's. These radios can operate on VHF or UHF depending on the users choice. They are conventional only. Hope this helps...

There are trunked versions of the HH Radius the number would be something like P1225 LS
the LS designates trunk.
Motorola P1225LS Portable Two Way Radio
Product Desctiption

The Radius P1225·LS portable radio is a reliable and simple-to-operate UHF LTR® trunked radio. Why UHF trunking? With the limited spectrum in 800 and 900 MHz available today, UHF trunking is quickly becoming the new trend. Available in both standard and keypad models, the P1225·LS offers features that are easily customized to meet your changing needs.

What’s more, the Radius P1225·LS portable radio utilizes Motorola’s exclusive X-PandTM technology. With X-Pand, the audio quality of 12.5 kHz radios can actually outperform what you could expect from 25 kHz radios. X-Pand technology actually compresses your voice at transmission. At the receiving end, it expands it while simultaneously reducing extraneous noise.

I am trying to figure out 3 things:
Do the mobile Radius's have 800/900 MHz versions?
Do any of the mobile Radius's include MOT trunking on any version?
Do the mobile Radius's include LTR trunking on any version?

Thanks for the replies so far btw.

RADIUS is just a sub-model under the Motorola name. I believe if not mistaken RADIUS radios were considered non-public safety branded radios. They're mostly used in commercial and business applications. However some models like the RADIUS P100 did make it into fire/police service...

To my knowledge, RADIUS models are conventional only. No trunking. I think they only cover either VHF or UHF bands... If you want 800mhz it'll be a MAXTRAC or MOSTAR for mobiles and an MTX or MTS for porable.

I have a couple of P100'S they're both VHF-Hi used in the 154~155mhz band.

here are a bunch of pictures... look at these and see if you can identify which one you saw:

It looks like the picture of the Motorola-Radius, whatever model that is.

they made so many radios that look like that... what does the antenna look like?

does it look like a cellular antenna, is it straight and only about 18 inches from base to tip? is it like 2 feet long with a plastic thing in the middle?
