• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

What do you think Motorola is coming out next in their firmware release to update the XPR 6500/6550 series portable/handheld radios?

We really never know until it is out. Don't forget this series of radio has been out for a number of years, so FW upgrades don't happen often. The radio seems to work fine, so unlike Astro 25 FW, & CPS which is currently bricking lot's of radios, they need something done quick, while the XPR series is working fine, & not in desperate need of another upgrade. Is your radio doing something wierd causing it to need a bump?

Well, we can speculate until the cows come home, but we'll never know until it actually is released. They don't ever say "When the new release comes out it will do this, & this, & that". According to them, all is well. Just be patient, & see what happens when the next release comes out.

CPS and Firmware Combinations

PRELIMINARY LISTING

What began some 6 months ago was a small list of combinations in a running file. This page is not meant to be a comprehensive list of info about new features, revisions, fixes, etc but more to keep track of which CPS release matches up with it's firmware release. There is much overlap and backward compatibility certainly.

This is page is more historical effort to list releases across the board. Refer to the specific release notes or other documentation for more details. Please let us know if you have additions or corrections to this listing. Email us

Often, if they do announce a new upcoming feature, they might not even release it or they take forever to do so!

Thanks. I updated to CPS 8.5 yesterday I wonder what the firmware will have to offer in their next release. Maybe a feature for back lighting for night time use.

Hey Guys & Ladies,

I have Mototrbo CPS 8.5 version and when I try to program my radio with updated Mototrbo repeaters in my area..The CPS program gives me a error code 1233 ''Unable to preform this operation. To proceed, register the 20/25khz channel bandwidth in CPS. Where is this feature at?

You should not get that error when programming mototrbo repeaters, the error would come from trying to program "wideband" analog channels.

This is why people racing to install the newest CPS or firmware should wait & see what will happen when they do. To the OP, You only want to use the radio as a hobby radio. The only thing the newest CPS or firmware will do for you would possibly be to improve the radio when used in commercial trunking applications. Possibly the next firmware bump will make your radio narrow band only, & then you will need the EID. Just stay where you are.

In case you haven't noticed, Moto has released new CPS for TRBO. It is Ver 8.5 B-429 and it will not allow 20/25 KHz programming. Either get your "Entitlement" or hold off upgrading. See quote below:-

> Welcome to the MOTOTRBO Customer Programming Software (CPS) for the MOTOTRBO radios.
>
> This Customer Programming Software is intended for programming radios to be used in the United States of America (USA) to ensure compliance with the narrowband mandate issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Programming of the radio to operate on 20/25 KHz channel spacing is not permitted and has been disabled in this application in compliance with the FCC mandate for Part 90 VHF and UHF effective January 1st, 2013.
>
> Canadian customers and US based customers who are not impacted by this FCC mandate for Part 90 VHF and UHF frequencies may contact Motorola customer service for additional information on how to access the appropriate service tool for your needs.
>
> It is the responsibility of the FCC licensee to comply with FCC Narrowbanding rules and not apply these international & service tools in a manner that is inconsistent with the Narrowbanding regulations or the directions provided by the manufacturer.

The enhancement for 25khz was easy to get. We called MOL support and they sent us a form to fill out and then emailed us the EID to open the wideband back up.
