Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi everybody. I just bought off Ebay a second hand Motorola XPR 6580, and once I received it I found out the seller had conveniently omitted to state that the current codeplug was password protected. I know I can return it, but, if anyone is so kind as to share a clean codeplug I'd be much happier.

Thank you
and 73 de IK7VXC

Pretty sure that's not how it works.

Thanks for your prompt reply Kevin. Please enlighten me ... If there is nothing I can do I'll return the device.

I won't say there's nothing you can do but returning it and starting fresh with one that's not password protected would be the best avenue I think for you if that's an option. XPR 6580's are pretty plentiful and cheap at least here in the US so I'd find another one.

Thank you. I bought it because it was cheap. If I had known it was password protected I wouldn't have bought it. Damn ... I'll return the radio if I don't find any other solution.

I'm guessing by your username you're in Italy?
I'm also guessing you know this is a 800/900 MHz radio?

There’s a big difference between a radio that’s locked, & one that’s write protected. I’ve purchased several that were locked, & simply did a restore which reverts the radio to the day it was built, totally blank.

To restore the radio I need the packages which at the moment are missing in my CPS. I should probably ask MotorolaSolutions for them. Sorry, I'm new to the Motorola world, so I'm learning the hard way.

A restore and a codeplug write are not the same thing. OP asked about a blank codeplug to write into the radio, which wont work if theres a write password.

If he wants to restore, he will need the matching firmware package.

Sorry, my bad. Like I said I'm learning the hard way. Yes, I need a matching firmware package. I don't know if this is freely available or needs to be bought.

Currently it's installed firmware version: R01.12.17. But - correct me if I'm wrong - I believe I also need the XPR6000 Device Package (NA) and a Recovery Database (?)
What I know is the CPS does not have the device package and can't perfom the update.
Any help here is VERY MUCH appreciated.

You just need to install the firmware package and then do a recovery with CPS.

Just find 1.12.17 and recover the radio then. that's the last commercially released (that was common) for that radio. I've updated many of the 6000 series radios with that. It's on the Motorola site under legacy stuff.
