• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I know it's Motorola, and I know it's about an antenna, but I think this is the best place for this.

I went and bought a PMAE4022B antenna for my XPR6550.
This antenna is about an inch longer than the one that came with the radio. And according to the specs, it's range is 403 to 470, which make it centered at about 436.

What a difference. With the stock antenna, I couldn't bring up one of the local analog machines. With this antenna, I'm full quieting.

So if someone uses their 6550 (or whatever radio this antenna can go on to) for ham, this may an antenna to take a look at.

I dont have part numbers in front of me but Motorola does make antennas in wide band and then some in segments.
Example, The UHF whip for HT1000 was wide band, but the stubby antennas were 403-450, 440-480 and 470-512 (going off memory so those are not exact).
Some of the newer antennas are 400-470 and 450-512 (another round about example)
Same on vhf. They made a wide band antenna that was super long, then some shorter that covered 3 segments of the band. The bottom was always color coded. Black, Red, White, Green. Those colors defined what band it was made for.
You may have gone from a wide band to a more tuned antenna and your absolutely right it will work better.

We have been using the PAME4022 antennas on Jedi, and XTS radios with very good results.

I use the PMAE4023 and have had good results with it. Comparable to my XPR7550e with a long antenna. Obviously it isn't the same but I can do about 85% of what the one on my 7550 can do if that makes any sense.
