• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

There used to be some good tools that may help you on another forum. Head over to communications support and start reading through this topic on that site. This forum is for people who don't like wor arounds and think moto lirks behind every corner I don't get it. Head over to CS they will have more information whether or not the membership there has changed over the years I don't know how much but it's worth a look.

Those of us at CS are not gonna help someone try to bypass an ASK.

I know a guy that can fix it but you would have to ship to So Cal then figure out how to compensate for his time, etc. Its best to return the unit unless you live in So Cal and have the radio diddled in person.

Why not? I purchased the radio on eBay and attempting to program it to my agency’s frequency.
Because unless you have documentation from the license holder for your agency (or are the license holder) you are unauthorized to make any changes to the radio. That is not what CS is about. We are a forum of industry professionals not hobbyists. Others have mentioned Austech. Go there for help.

The rules are in place on this site because we don't wish to have a beef with Motorola, which does lurk around every corner.

System administrators, Motorola system technologists and others monitor this and other forums all the time, and they do talk to each other about what they're seeing on these forums (I know, I was a system admin and worked with Motorola all the time before I retired).

So since you didn't know the entire back story. This was purchased on ebay from a seller therefore I am not doing anything unauthorized. But thank you so much for your help!

Who you bought it from has nothing to do with what you’re trying to do with it; unless you have a letter from the system or frequency owner saying you’re authorized to have their frequency/system in your radio, you’re not authorized.

And if the radio is ASK protected, you’ll have to send it to Motorola to be wiped and have the “ASK Required” feature removed.

And with that, I think we’re done here…
