• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

You don't have to set it into programming mode to program it. If it is connected to the computer properly, when you click Read the radio will beep, switch from normal mode to programming mode, and show Program on the display.

Thanks for you help.
I have found that my Astro25 mobile CPS version is too old (R.12.00). It can not compatible with the radio (firmware, maybe).
Could you tell me the newest/latest CPS version ?
Thanks

Is this a new radio? Or was it existing? Your CPS version is way old. We're up to 18.00.01 now. Probably why you can't connect to the radio if its new or newer. You can't read/write a newer radio with an old version of CPS.

You're right. My CPS is updated now (R18.00.03). The USB driver is installed automatically with new CPS version. everything is OK. Thanks for your suggestion.

You're right. It works properly with USB cable after installing new CPS version. Thanks for your advise.

PROGRAMING TUTORIAL

R19.01.00

Thanks MikeOxlong for version info !

I'm new with XTL2500 MOL radio. I want to program the radio to communicate with other one (same radio model) but I don't know where starting... Does anyone tell me step-by-step how to get this point ? I see the tutorial but it's not simple for me. Thanks !

If the radios are the same flashcode, then you can clone the radio. Read the radio you want to clone, then connect to the radio you want to clone to. Click Tools > Cloning > Clone Wizard. I don't have access to a mobile right now to detail the rest, but after you click Next I think you are given an option to change any MDC and Astro identifiers. After that there should be a write radio button.

Thanks for your help ! But both the radios (XTL2500) are NEW. Could I have some .cpg files (some where to download) for reference ?

CPS vs XTL2500

I'm receiving "USB error" message when trying to communicate with the XTL2500 from my CPS. (v19)

I'm using an Edgeport 1 USB convertor. What Com Port should my computer be set at?

Thanks!
