• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Looking for a special version of firmware released for the Motorola XPR6550 to fix a known issue with the radio where it will randomly emit an ear piercing high pitch squeal. MOL is being difficult and is stating that "the radio is no longer supported" and are refusing to supply this firmware. Several times I have been deafened by this this issue (to the point of tinnitus) and I use the radio quite frequently so I am desperate to get this bug fix firmware.

The firmware has the following special version number:
MOTOTRBO update: "MATRIX 1.12A Subsciber S01.17.08_R13.02.03"

Any help would be greatly appreciated as MOL support has been extremely disappointing lately. This is a known problem with an official fix from MOL which they will no longer support (likely so they can sell newer hardware). See the following link for additional information as it has been discussed here once before but was several years ago when the radio was still supported by MOL:

I got it on that P25.Ca forum a year ago. Put it in a bunch of XPR6580’s last week. I’ve only experienced the noise twice in 8 years.

Any chance that someone still has this around? The file is no longer on Mega.

And indeed - M refuses to deal with this directly since the radios are out of support.

tgbanshee- this happened a couple of times on a used xpr6550 I bought. Question: do you have a Motorola or aftermarket battery? Since I switched to a Moto battery I haven’t had the issue but we know it can be sporadic.

Is S01.17.08 a newer firmware than R01.12.17? S comes after R but 2017 comes after 2008 or maybe the .08 and .17 are not the year?

S = Service release. No, it's not the year, it's major and minor versions. S01.17.08 is the most recent and last firmware that was available for the XPR 6550, and was not publicly released.

The firmware is not showing up in the dropdown list with the other firmware. It's been a while since I loaded firmware, any tips?

FWIW - Windows Defender blocked that file claiming that it contained a trojan.

Scanned the file with McAfee and Malawarebytes and it was clean. There is something online about false positives for wacatac (not specifically wrt Motorola firmware) and i did not dig into it.
