• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Have MOL send you S01.17.08_130203 for the XPR6550. This is a known condition.

Looking for this, "S01.17.08_130203" on my MOL account. It has been a bit since I logged in; I don't see the aforementioned file. Is it somewhere aside from the Trbo software section?

I'm doing a bit of research after getting some information from Motorola on this subject.

Of the ones here who have had this happen with their XPR6550 units, do these XPR6550s have the option board installed?

If the option boards are installed, are they programmed with Connect Plus trunking or any other form of trunking? This does not include Capacity Plus or Linked Capacity Plus trunking, since Cap+ and LCP are not installed on the option boards but are in the 'main firmware'.

I had this happen only once on my 6550 in the last year. It does not have the option board. Turning the radio off did not stop the noise. Disconnecting the battery did. But since it only happened once, I’m not worried about it. If it means anything, mine is a hi split radio being used in the 440 band.

So your radio is a 450-527 Mhz model, reprogrammed/hacked to allow programming below 450 Mhz?

Mine is, yes. But I don't know if the OP's radio is a hi split being used at 440 like mine. It only happened once, & turning off the radio wouldn't lower the volume, or stop the high pitched noise. Removing the battery did. That was 6 months ago, so i haven't bothered trying to look for a solution. My FW version is 1.12.17.

Problem solved

There is a fix for this specifically for the 6550. Have MOL send you S01.17.08_130203 for the XPR6550. This is a known condition.

This fixed our problem and have not had any problems since.

Thank YOU

This solution also worked for me, but in addition to the previously mentioned upgrade, I found one of the model numbers I had an issue on was not included in that package. They did have a secondary package which included it, so if anyone runs into that, keep it in mind.
