MPD Talkgroups

Good Afternoon:

I have just recently programmed my scanner (pro 96, WIN96) to receive the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department frequencies. I have been successful (Thanks to this forum) and have been able to monitor my neighborhood (3rd District) police activity.

I have a couple more questions now after I saw this website:

From the tables in the link above I can pick up most of Police Zone 1 Talkgroup and Police Zone 2 Talkgroup. I noticed there are some Talkgroups that I can't seem to pick up that are listed in the tables in the above link.

For example, I'd like to Pick up the Talkgroups under the table names "Police Alternative Talkgroups," "Police Interagency Talkgroups," and "Police Special Events Talkgroups."

Is it as simple as adding the Decimal and Hex number to my current WIN96 database and re-uploading it to my scanner?

Also, I'm obviously new at scanning and I've only had my pro-96 for a few days, can someone recommend a book I could purchase or some additional reading I could do to learn more about my scanner and programming?

If you have the talkgroups programmed and they are not encrypted, you will get them when they become active. You will also get them if they are not programmed, but you have the bank scanning in the "Open" mode. You are not getting anything because the talkgroups outside of Zones 1 and 2 are not routinely used.
