I have been trying this idea as well. so far it has worked between Grand Rapids and Detroit along 96. I have not been able to test it in other areas as of yet. I don't see why it wouldn't work though. I have the complete system split between two banks with regular FM freq's between each of the control freqs so that the scanner with scan all freq's and not just the first one it comes to. I have also noticed that some of the control freq's are used for voice channels in some areas. All I got was part of the conversation and then the scanner moved on to the next control freq. so not a big problem with that so far. good luck

I do a lot of driving around the state. Today, while sitting around bored, I thought that maybe I would just program all the control freqs for the entire MSPSCS system into a bank on my 296D. It works out to 46 freqs all together (many are used in multiple locations). The way I see it, no matter where I went in the state, I would have a control freq to lock onto. Does anyone forsee a problem with doing this? Please share thoughts.

I did that last summer before a trip to Traverse City from Genesee Co., programmed all listed control channels on my PRO 96. It worked. You will want to make sure you have that bank in the "open" mode, (or so it is with the PRO 96 anyway).

I've found that doing this works better with the pro-96 than it did with the 296D. Then again, the 296D I used to have never really worked right from the get-go. I never got to take them at the same time and do a side by side thing, but the 296 never seem to pick up that much activity. The RS never went silent for more than a minute during the whole trip.

I've been through Wayne Co. several times though, with both scanners, once right through downtown Detroit, and both scanners were way to quiet, at least I thought they were. I remember reading something about there being problems with scanners picking up Wayne Co. Is this still a known problem or has it been corrected?

Wayne Co. should come in very well, the only problem has been the Detroit Simulcast, scanners don't receive it well outside of the city.
