MSHP Troop D Frequencies

Hi everyone! I am aware of the Troop D Frequencies listed in the RR Database. My question is, what are the best of those frequencies listed to monitor in the Nixa/Springfield area? I am currently using a Pro-164 with the stock antenna, and in the past, it just doesn't seem like I was hearing much traffic at all when monitoring. I am just looking for the best frequencies to monitor for dispatch and car to car, and is there a better antenna I can be using for the low band that the MSHP utilizes? Thanks for any assistance! I'm willing to bet that KB0NHX can probably give me some answers in this area. How ya been James? Haven't talked with ya in a long time since you left Nixa. Need to come back so we can spot some wall clouds over Nixa buddy. I think that was the last time you and I talked on the amateur bands, the day we had that huge wall cloud right over our neighborhood . Thanks everyone for your input in advance!

You should monitor 42.06. That is the Dispatch frequency. Unless you are right on top of the trooper you won't hear their traffic on 42.22.

The stock (short) antenna is about the worst thing possible to pick up frequencies this low. Check out the size of the whip on the patrol cars and you will see what you should have to monitor this more effectively.

Quite honestly I didn't post earlier because all of this information has been posted before and with a little research on your part you could have answered your own question.

The Diamond RH77ca is probably the best antenna for monitoring lowband on a handheld scanner. You will also see a dramatic improvement on VHF and UHF frequencies. That being said it is unlikely you will hear much of the car to car or car to dispatch radio traffic as it isn't on a repeater.

You should also consider putting the remote link frequencies into your scanner and see if you can pick any of them up. The remote links, if you can monitor them, will allow you to hear the troopers communications from all of the troop. I've had mixed results by monitoring them, in some locations they will come in loud and clear while other places I won't hear them at all.

Also, you mentioned being in HAM, do you have the ability to mount an antenna on your roof or other high point. While it would only be beneficial for you while you were at home, it would certainly help in hearing everything on the radio waves including the MSHP.
