I am programming MARCS into an older PSR-500 scanner and have a question on the UHF MRE frequencies

What are these used for?
Are these used to link a handheld portable radio to the (more powerful) vehicle’s radio to extend coverage when a unit is on foot?

Or do these communicate car to car (in UHF) in an area where MARCS coverage might be poor?

Does an offset input frequency exist ? ( ex. 30 MHz +\_ the listed output frequency

They are used to link portable to patrol car, the MRE’s are the solution to MARCS not supporting in-building coverage.

Even if they're not using it you can hear a polling burst if there's one in range. It's kinda interesting. Also interesting that they're analog so if they're on an encrypted TAC channel you can potentially hear the traffic.

This is true. My buddy @firemantom26 has a remote monitoring station near the Wintersville barracks. There is always at least one car within range of his monitoring station. Definitely analog, and if they aren't talking the radios do emit some polling burst every so often.

I'm pretty sure the tones vary by region, but this evening I heard one talking on their MRE with a PL of 103.5,
I live right on SR73 in Middletown. Not far from I-75.
