Not 100% positive on the use out west, but here in the east they are still using Low Band, mostly like a car to car channel and car to base where the TRS reception is questionable.

Yes. It looks like they plan to keep that capability as their newest patrol vehicles have low band whips installed.

If I were running systems for an agency I would certainly keep the legacy channels I had licensed, especially since there are no licensing fees for governmental agencies. All the agencies I''ve heard about who are doing this regard the legacy channels as excellent backups, which is just playing it smart.

I was in Springfield last week and saw the whip on a MSP car at the courthouse.

Also, I drove from CT to Auburn on the Pike yesterday, then back on the back roads through Charlton with a file that Gary sent me in my 396XT.

It worked great, though I didn't stop to see what I was hearing, there was plenty of chatter, so thanks again!

They were doing an aerial search near the "Reservation"?

B4 (Cheshire) is still using it as primary (42.460). B1 (Lee) is using 800, but every once in a while they will use the low band.

The last I knew, the long term plan was to eliminate the low band once the 800 system was fully built out. The build started in the mid 1990s and is still going on, so I think low band will be around for a while.

As one Trooper told me, "Nobody knows where the tape recorders are for the low-band." It's the primary chit-chat channel for H-3 Foxboro.
