Most of the police officers I know are also sworn in the jurisdictions that are around their city or county, so in theory they can write coupons in them too. Well except Denver and Aurora, they just don't get along.

There's probably no department cross-sworn with Denver...I cant even write a ticket in Denver...the whole Mtn View thing sounds like a screwed up mess...sounds like they got their hand caught in the cookie jar and now they're going to pay the price

Mountain View PD issuing tickets outside town

I have read all of the posts on this thread. Is it me, or does it seem that anytime law enforcment actions are questioned, whether they are right or wrong, it is by someone charged with a crime (as in this case, charged with carrying a concealed weapon). Can anyone in law enforcement weigh in on this thought?

Question on revenue??

Only familar with KY but here the town or even city does not get the money from a ticket, the money goes to the state and the state doles out the money in the form of grants sort of like any tax revenue would be done, This is done to keep a city from having a financial stake in writing shady tickets . Now court costs may be kept by the locals but its just a small part of the fine here.

Not to bring a dead horse back to life, but this is so closely related---Lakeside PD has been impounding a lot of motorist's vehicles lately that have been pulled over on SB Sheridan and also on W 44th Ave. for various traffic infractions. Only problem is that if no proof of insurance is forthcoming the drivers' license is confiscated, (legal) but the kicker is that the vehicle is confiscated too. I can't find any legal authority for that--Even after proof of insurance is produced the driver still gets stuck with a big bill for the towing & impound fees. Last Monday they impounded a late model mommy van with a gramma, mother, & 2 little boys, but were nice enough to let them unload the car seats, groceries, & diaper bag across the street at a Diamond Shamrock station and find another way home.

I agree with any LE jurisdiction impounding a vehicle if the owner is driving it without a valid license, but this Lakeside impound deal is about not having a current insurance card to show them--Obviously a scam. You produce the proof & get your wheels back, but are charged a $25 tow fee for the 2 miles to the yard & a $95 impound fee even if you get it back an hour later---

The problem with the Denver law seems to be the $2500 bond to spring the vehicle, and also the "Illegal alien" angle.
Even so, what makes the City council think they can override a voter-passed ordinance? I think a lawsuit may be coming on that one.
