• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Im curious to know what frequency(s) your licensed on in 800mhz to be able to use these. :)
its a lot easier and safer to use VHF or UHF direct then 800. Just a heads up.

It's quite possible he doesn't own any VHF, or UHF radios, but does own the 800 radios. His question is about possible range to expect, & not about licensing. My 1st reply directly answers his question. Why can't we leave it at that? LOL.

Easy Moonboots. Im merely adding information that he may or may not have.
If he has it great, if not then now he does and it may save him from getting into trouble. Wouldnt you want someone to add info that may be beneficial or useful, especially if it prevented you from breaking the law.
I tried to be nice about it and not act like a know it all or a licensing nazi. :)

Just because you might know it doesnt mean other people do too.
So now you know thats why we cant just leave it at that.

I was very polite in my remark, so I meant no ill will. It's just when people ask a question regarding range, or coverage, there's always someone mentioning licensing, or are they an authorized user for that trunked system. To me, & it's just my opinion, I believe the proper reply is no reply at all. He asked about the range he would expect, & I answered that question based on my personal experience. Sure, UHF would go further, & VHF even further than that, but he didn't ask about which would be better, or go further, just how far 2 800 mhz ht's could talk. But again, I meant no ill will, so I wish you a great day.

While pointing out that licensing is a consideration, the two 800 MHZ itinerant frequencies should also be mentioned. 808.4875 and 853.4875 are options that could be used.

No ill will taken Moonboots. I too hope i didnt come across as being a bad apple. Was just trying to help. My mentioning of VHF and UHF actually had less to do with how far it would go and more to do with itinerant freqs available in the respective bands.
Thanks to Citywide173 chiming in, i learned something new. I was not aware of the 808.4875/853.4875 pair as being itinerant freqs in the 800 band.

clearyfire44 - if your looking for better coverage VHF and UHF will have a bit more coverage then 800mhz channels will.

I too did not know this. While I have HT's on all the bands to use on simplex for car races, & outings for non ham friends, this info is good to know. I usually use UHF for simplex use.
