My BCD436HP has really muffled audio, almost like there is a loose membrane of plastics being held over the speaker. It's almost unlistenable. Has anyone else had this?

On both digital and conventional?

My 436 sounds clear and load on over 200 conventional channels from two different states and two different state wide trunked P25 PI systems. One of these VHF and the other is 800 MHz.

How does NOAA Wx or commercial FM stations sound?

I've observed a "vibrating", for lack of a better term, on transmissions from the speaker when the volume is set at a certain level (usually 10 or 11). I think it has something to do with either the battery compartment or the position of the batteries themselves, and usually moving around the batteries within the compartment alleviates the issue, temporarily. It's been an annoyance but it's something I've observed on my GRE scanners and other radios as well.

Yea I have noticed it on both my 436HP and the BCD396XT. Whenever I turn the volume past 10 the noise starts. It sounds like something vibrating inside the speakers.

Not really. In a very typical environment inside a room with a couple computers running and a few other radios, anything lower than 10 is not loud enough for me.
