In a hutshell yes,WHY?Because the ground plane is tuned and fully resonant at the frequency of choice, where as the multiband scantenna is resonant over a broader range and not focusing on your target frequency,in a nutshell. There is always a GIVE and TAKE scenario with multiband antenna's trying to cover a broad range, granted they work excelent and perform top shelf, but focusing on your target low band frequency with an antenna cut to resonance on a particular frequency would be my choice for single channel monitoring if i needed to.Hope this helps.doctordave said:Somewhat related topic:
I have tweaked my SCANTENNA for optimal performance on 39 MHZ.....is there any real advantage to instead using a ground plane antenna (cut for 39 MHZ) -vs- a SCANTENNA cut for this freq? Looking for improving my range on some distant stations. Perhaps yet another antenna design would be ideal? In any case, the antenna will be attic mounted.
Appreciate any input.
Thanks.
