Multi-Function Buttons & Display -- Enough Already

So, anybody else agree that they are tired of scanners that utilize the same button for 2 or 3 different purposes? I am.
Each button, especially the DATA button should be for one purpose.
Also, I'm tired of shifting back and forth to get my display, it should always tell you what Bank AND List you are in.
Whew! I feel better.

I can't tell you the last time I used a DATA button, and the 246 _does_ alternate between system and group on the display.

Data button?

I had to look at every scanner I own again (10, 9 different models) and by George I finally found one with a Data button. My Pro-90! But as Rob says, I don't remember the last time I pressed it (as a matter of fact, I am not sure I rememember what it does.) :lol:

I definetly understand the need to ease operation, but single button operation would make for a big scanner.

On several of my Uniden models the DATA button serves many purposes including switching from the "which talkgroups are active" to "what banks am I monitoring" to "how many talkgroups are active at the moment (who cares). The other models you guys have probably have a better method for entering info, many of the Radio Shack models seem to (guess I shoulda bought one of them).

Yeah, it may well be a big face. I was kinda thinking to do it up like some of the overly complicated remote controls for TVs, etc. put a cover or shield over the keys that are rarely used (at programming time) and expose those that you frequently use e.g., hold, scan, manual, which bank.
