Thanks all! Appreciate you sussing this out with me.

There is still something rotten in Denmark... I'll keep at it - I think I have a better understanding of how this works... it's just not working now.
Bear in mind that since your county has changed systems so recently, there might be other talkgroups active for your area. If you change that system (the state’s P25 system) to scan in ID Search mode, instead of ID Scan, you may find other active TGIDs. ID Search will receive any talkgroup being carried on the site as long as it is not set as ‘avoid’ and it is not in a department that is set to avoid. ID Scan only receives talkgroups that are programmed in your Favorites list (and is not set as avoid, and is not in a department set as avoid).

What other issue are you thinking is ‘not right’?

I'm not getting any traffic from police or sheriffs dispatch - or even HP that is repeated out of Vermillion.

I'll try he ID search mode... thanks!

Hallelujah! I am hearing local and HP dispatch again.

This weekend is the Super Bowl of scanner traffic - and I was bummed I wasn’t going to hear it. Thank you all!

If you find talkgroups that are not in your Favorites list (the text tag would show as 'unknown' on the scanner's display), you can save them with a more informational name as to who is using them. If you collect any that are not in the RR database, once you have determined who is using them, and for what (Law Enforcement? Fire? EMS? Public Works?), please submit them to the database.

We need answers!!!:geek: Inquiring minds' want to know, lol!!:geek:

So it's probably buried a bit up there in all that text :) but state radio techs JUST came through Vermillion and did the P25 upgrade most of the rest of the state has already done.

It appears that SOME of the data for that change was not reflected in the database update yesterday morning. In fact, something important was left out. The talk groups are there, but there was no SITE to associate them with - not good. Hiegtx saw that and fixed my favorites file. I then got a few things, but all the important stuff still went unheard.

They then suggested - since this is all so new - hence there may be incomplete data that I use ID SEARCH MODE instead of ID SCAN. And bingo ... the current talk group lists are either wrong, incomplete, or both. Hopefully next Mondays dump will fix all this. :)

If it doesn't I'm going to have to learn how to collect those and label them. :p

Here in my area (DFW metro), Dallas (both the city & the county), is migrating from their legacy conventional channels (Uhf for Dallas public safety, Vhf for the county) to a regional trunked system. Some of the other cities in the county are also moving: 3 that were on a Uhf NXDN system, and another that was using their own NXDN system. So there have been a lot of new talkgroups popping up. What I've been doing is recording all the activity on the scanner's SD card. Then, periodically, moving the captured audio files to my laptop,

Once I have them on my laptop, I can then use the Universal Scanner Audio Player to review the recordings. That puts the audio files into a spreadsheet. You can sort by talkgroup, as well as date & time, or use the filter option to concentrate on a single TGID. As I can identify new users, I then add them to my Favorites list.

Sort the recordings by date & time, which can help create a "conversation". Listening to those recordings in date/time order, you may may be able to determine who is using that talkgroup, and for what purpose. If you can identify the usage, then you can program it appropriately in your Favorites list for both the user, and the service type that covers that activity. Be sure & submit any new ones to the database. Changes made since this last Sunday, such as the Vermillion site on the old system, and the site & talkgroups on the new P25 system, should show up on the next database update, which will will come out next Monday, based on known information as of the previous day (Sunday, 10/29).

For your 536HP, turn the scanner off & pop out the memory card from it's sock. It's much faster to download the recordings by using a card reader than it is to pull them by putting the scanner in mass storage mode.
