The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I think I screwed up. I recently bought a Motorola GR500, with hopes of setting it up as a gmrs repeater. The GR500 consisted of 2-CM200 radios, a RICK and Celwave duplexer.
I bought my programming cable from bluemax49rs, and it works fine

I first tried CPS R05.12 on a WinXP computer, but it wouldn't read the radios, so went with R05.18 on Win7 and it read the radios fine. The problem is Error #2440 FCC Narrowband regulations..... when I tried to write the radio in wideband. From what I've been reading, I'm probably screwed with the CM200 radios, but what other radios could I use in their place (that would ideally work with this programming cable and do wideband)

Both radios show firmware version R04.01.02, Codeplug version 08.01 and last programmed 8/19/2011

Use R05.12 on the Windows 7 computer.
It won't install on the Win 7 computer. Gives an error that it can't install.

Also, if I couldn't read the radios using R05.12 on the Win XP computer, doesn't that mean they they have already been programmed on a later version CPS?

You need to find R05.16. That was the last one that would allow wideband. If it’s like the professional CPS, you should be able to toggle between .16 and .18.
Thanks, I'll try to find it.

Out of curiosity, I just checked my XPR5550 and XPR7550's and I am unable program them in wideband! (Using CPS 16.0 build 828) I guess that's why I was told I sound better on the cheap Chinese radios??
Now I get why so many shy away from motorola. Definitely not for the faint of heart, but I guess they really are meant for commercial use

You need the wideband entitlement for Mototrbo CPS. It's not hard to get, but it can no longer be activated in CPS 16. There is a dll file out there that does the same thing without dealing with Motorola.

Ok, I'm still trying to navigate the Motorola site, but right now getting a Single Sign on error. Searching for that dll, without much success, but I did find and installed CPS R06.16. It ran fine, but of course when attempting to read the radio, I get Error #40040 Region Not supported
Taking a little break before I do something I regret, like going get my sledge hammer

Is your Windows 7 Operating System a 32-bit system or a 64-bit system? If I recall that program will only work on a 32-bit windows operating system like Windows 2000 or maybe Vista, or the radio won't be happy.

Cps16 will no longer activate any Eid as it doesn’t support the new authentication server. You need to hex edit cps16 to enable wideband.

Instructions are easily forums with Google.

Both Win 7 computers are 64 bit. The R 05.16 loaded up just fine on my Win XP computer, but also got the Region Not Supported error, so I'm assuming I have the wrong R05.16

Just wanted to post a little update. I reinstalled R05.12 onto my old Windows XP machine and this time it read the radios. I was able to successfully program them to wideband.
Now to tackle my XPR radios. The dll file referenced in the hex edit for some reason is different than my sfccomb.dll so back to the drawing board on that one

Are you on 16.828?
Edit: Ok sorry see that you are, I'm not sure why the edit isn't taking. It's worked on probably 20 cases for hams in my area. Good luck...
