Just FYI, according to a USFS Comm tech working the Type 3 fire in Virginia, they are making this the first fire to use completely digital communications for all USFS operations. They mainly use Midland P25 radios. Perhaps someone has more info on this.
By the way, a few tech jobs are open at GS7-9 level if anyone is interested in hopping some helos and setting up repeaters for the USFS.
