I know this is amateur radio related but, deals with a specific group of repeaters.

It has been a while since I posted, changed careers(guess I need to change my avatar) I work for the NC DOT now out of Durham. But anyway I plan on taking my Technician class here soon, probably before the new year. I bought a DM32uV Baofeng radio. It is not to bad of a radio. But this is not about the radio itself, but I did get it for some of its features.

So it has a feature for roaming DMR repeaters. The programing is fairly simple(Analog, DMR, roaming, etc) and after some research for roaming to work the repeaters must emit a beacon and the radio would work out the rest(RSSI). So my question is do these repeaters send out beacons? This is more on information gathering once I get my license then dmr id and so on.

Thanks!

NCPRN does support roaming and the repeaters do beacon, I use the roaming function just about every time I’m riding down I-40, and it works pretty nicely. Of course by design, the NCPRN TG is the only one that should be setup for this to prevent doubling and TS1 conflicts. I still use the roam function to monitor, initiate chats, and figure out what repeater I should be changing to when moving to the chat groups.

Best wishes on your tech!

NCPRN does not use roaming. Good luck on your Tech exam and I hope you enjoy the hobby as much as most of us in it do!

There used to be a page on the NCPRN site that said they're not supporting roaming. Maybe that changed? I don't know. I can't delete my response that said it's not supported though because this site doesn't allow deletes or edits after a very short time. But I do note you say you're using it so that's great!

Sorry for not replying sooner, been at work most of the day and now just had the time to respond. I appreciate the reply for sure. Thank you for the tip on the talkgroups as well.

Roaming on NCPRN works fine for the PRN talkgroup, since that is live at all sites at all times. Other talkgroups will not roam.
