Has Nassau County & Suffolk County Fire Departments started switching from 46.XX VHF low band to 453.XXX UHF band frequencies yet? I know transitions can be slow but is there any expected date of completion? Thanks in advance.

Nassau is allowing departments that want to go to UHF to go. Those who want to stay on 46.10 can stay.
Remember - many departments in Nassau are self dispatched.

Suffolk has been playing around with their West dispatch frequency. From what I've heard, the East dispatch is still not yet on the air.

Suffolk Firecom UHF paging west is active for those depts wishing to get activated on it. I believe it’s only simulcasted right now with low band 46.46 for the depts that requested it like (is Dix Hills). UHF paging channel east is built, I’m not sure if they’re using it yet. There are still more sites to be added on both zones. The dividing line for west/east I was told was the William Floyd Parkway. Like Nassau, a lot of depts use their own frequencies to activate.

Nassau Firecom only has the 1 countywide UHF paging freq. I know it’s active but not sure if it’s simulcasted with 46.10. I hear depts getting tones out on it. It happens to be the same freq as the Suffolk paging east freq.

Both Suffolk’s paging freqs are simulcasted over all towers during activations. Is Nassau’s set up the same way, or is their UHF paging site specific like 46.10 is?

Pagers are CSQ so that’s no problem, but they should have put a PL on them the 2 paging frequencies. Suffolk East paging is also Nassau’s new paging freq. And I hear a lot of out of country traffic on Suffolk West already.
