To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello. I am programming a Motorola M120 for someone, and it has “error 58 corrupt codeplug.” It came to me this way- there is no known good codeplug for it. I have searched my files and do not have a codeplug I can clone onto it. I believe that if I get a good one, I can clone it onto it and “save” the radio. It does work as is, but is programmed incorrectly and does have the long error beep when you turn it on. I believe it is a UHF 40 watt wideband model, I will upload the model number to this thread soon (it’s not at my house). Thank you all!

I have had a few that cleared codeplug errors by going to the F2 SERVICE and reading and just opening and closing all of the choices without even "writing" the radio.
Worth a shot.
Hard to clone unless you get the exact same model codeplug.

Thanks, but unfortunately I cannot successfully read it due to the error 58. If I go to edit things, it will tell me I need to read a codeplug first.

You should not need to read the radio to go to the F2 Service menus.
Just connect up and run the program and and select F2 SERVICE from the MAIN menu.
If you can't get that far, then there might be / probably is another problem.
I would recommend you clean the mic connector contacts, the two plugs that go from the front cover to the logic board,
and even remove the boards and clean the interconnect pins between the chassis connectors and the RF and logic board.
If you can't get to F2 Service, then you probably can't CLONE either.

I can go to the F2 service menu. Must’ve misread your post. I will try more and update you tomorrow. I’ve programmed several radios with this same PC/software/cable setup, and the PC and radio communicate fine. Just seems like someone crammed the incorrect codeplug in it at some point.

I followed some instructions to correct a corrupt checksum, it seems the checksum in the codeplug is right and that the issue is likely something else.

I would like to say thank you so much to @petnrdx for all the help. The radio has been programmed successfully. Not only did I need the codeplug, but I forgot how the archives also include a database and was walked through that as well. I appreciate this very much.
