I have been looking for a new scanner to replace my fathers 20 year old hand held, but there are just too many options and where I gon't know a whole lot about it, what I have come up with is the GRE PSR-410, can anyone tell me if this is a good choice for the NB area? I need a base model police, fire medic and future trunking.

I don't know much about that scanner, but you may consider the HomePatrol. I have one and it is beautiful. You get full access to the RR database thought the regular updates and the use is so easy I can do pretty much anything easily while cruising down the road.

Thank you for the reply but way out of the price range, looking to stay around the $250.00 range

The PSR-410 is a basic analogue trunking scanner. If that's all you need, then it would be perfect, however be aware that it does not decode digital (P25) transmissions. I don't live in NB and you don't mention where in the province you are, so I can't comment on how much P25 digital there is in your area, if any. However it is believed that the NB government will be bringing a P25 digital trunking system online, and many public safety agencies will probably migrate to that, so the PSR-410 may not exactly be future proofed. The digital equivalant from GRE would be the PSR-600.

He lives in Moncton and he would be happy with the analogue for now, have you had any experience with this scanner?

Unfortunately none. I have the PSR-400, which was replaced by the 410. The two unfortunately aren't similar enough for me to be able to compare them, but I haven't heard of any issues with it.
