Just to confirm the difference between an EDA2400 and a UG2402 is more amplification on the EDA model?

Yes, that is correct. Like I said in the above post, I bought one EDA's to try it out and it worked great. Actually picked up a few more simplex undercover freq's with the amplification model!
Take care

What's the advantage of one of these over a 20db amp and a 4-way splitter? Is there one (besides it being all in one box)?

the PCR100's keep multiplying like rabbits around here, I need to get them hearing stuff!

Well folks,

Around here in the Norfolk VA area, I have for years tried to gather data on Navy ships with little success.

1. They go to sea, so the signal is lost until that ship returns (sometimes many months).
2. They all have very low power and none of my scanners could pick up anything in the house.
3. They often use the same set of Motorola 400 freqs.

I have a RS Discone up about 20 feet on a tower but it does worse then my Pro96 in the back yard.

Thanks to Squadman for this feed and a few tips, I decided to order a Scantana and won the bid on and EDA 4G multicoupler.

Problem 2 is fixed, I have four scanners now tracking several ships. Iding them is another challenge due to problem 3. They each tend rotate the CC.s and mostly never use the same CC at the same time. However, the blend of freqs being the same makes it difficult to run a scanner on one ships system because one of it's voice channels is often a CC for another ship. My 2096 and 96 can't weed the problem very well because they are full time CC only. Thus when the CC for the ship I select to monitor hits on the VC that is used as a CC by the other ship - you guessed it - CC buzz on a VC. With the 785D and 2052 I can lock the CC of the second ship out and put up with missing and voice traffic on that freq.

Alas, I can run wtrunk, however, it rejuvenates the same problem if using either the 785 or 2052 as the voice scanner.

All in all, the scantanna and multicoupler have given me an opportunity to overcome the weak signal problem, so I'm a happy camper.

Electrical isolation is one advantage.
