Need antenna for Pro164!!

I'm looking for a new antenna for my Pro164 scanner. My primary interests are vhf and uhf air bands. Nothing over 500 Mhz. What would you suggest. I've got a Diamond RH77ca but I'm looking for something shorter for when it's clipped to my belt! What would be the best choice? TIA

You need a longer whip for any sort of decent VHF pick up. Remember the shorter the antenna the higher the band(s) it's resonant on. With that said feel free to try the Comet Miracle Baby. Might not be an improvement over the stock antenna on VHF air band. I had one but lost it, though used it primarily to minimize simulcast distortion on 700 & 800

If what you want is the basic stock antenna, Scannermaster has what you want:

It‘s a Uniden antenna, but will work just fine with the Pro-164.

Not really, unless you’re looking for UHF and above only. If so, the Remtronix REM-920B would work; it‘s a tad longer than a stock antenna. Works fairly well for VHF on strong signals.

I have the Comet Miracle Baby. The only time I dig it out is when I go to an air show or someplace else I will be in very close proximity to the transmitter(s), perhaps a hamfest. Other than that it’s pretty much a dummy load and lives in the bottom of the junk box.

I have had the Maldol MH-209SMA for about 20 years now and it’s still going strong. Still using it on my ol BR-330. It’s a very impressive antenna for only being 3” tall. I did a quick search and it looks like Comet purchased Maldol?, or just copied the antenna. I see a few NOS on e-bAy.

i have used an old radio shack 800 Mhz on my 164 and have gotten the space station on 145.8 Mhz and 250 miles up.
it does not hurt to try different antennas on any band.
for reception only, there are no rules.
you can't have too many radios, and you can't have too many antennas.
