Hey guys, decided to add another hobby to my belt. I followed lock picking for a few years now I want something new. I had a few questions, that hopefully you guys can answer.

1) Which scanner/companies should I look for, to follow police, and fire action?

2) Do I need a digital scanner? Or are all them digital now?

3) Are frequencies now being coded (by police) to block out "scanners" like us?

Thanks a mill,
JD

Hi JD and welcome to the forums,
The three main companies are GRE, Uniden and Radio Shack You can check the Wiki for the types of scanners by manufacturer.

If you are monitoring Seattle the database shows Public safety as Motorola Type II SmartZone trunked anolog system. Which would not require a digital scanner at this point, but may possibly in the future.
Some public safety frequency depending on the state are using encryption which breaks up the audio so you can not understand what is being said.

I have provided links to some of the info to get you started.
Good luck

Your hobby is lock picking and now you want information on how to monitor the police? That gives pause for some thought...

Way ahead of you there sport. To be perfectly frank about it you raised suspicion you can't worm your way out of so maybe you should have kept quiet about your other "hobby"?
