I am a novice, so I could use some help. I have access to the frequencies, TGID's, Base Channel, Offset and Spacing. How do I set it up? I assume I set it up as MOT, but then as P25 or VHF? Then what? I am sorry but if someone could walk me through, I would really appreciate it. Also, should I set up as one system with multiple groups or multiple systems with one group each? Thanks in advance.

It's P25. I'm not sure what you mean by "Also, should I set up as one system with multiple groups or multiple systems with one group each?". Could you clarify?

The systems has multiple zones, ie North, North Central, South, etc. Should I set it up as one system or each zone as it's own system? Also, if I set it up as a P25, it does not seem to have a place to enter the base channel, offset and spacing. Also, do I enter just the primary and secondary control channels or all frequencies? Thanks for responding, I appreciate the help!

Set it up as a MOT UHF Type 2 system. It's not a P25 system, just uses P25 voice. I don't have a 396 so I can't help you w/ setting this up. Sorry.

You can set up a system for each seperate zone, this way you use the system which you are closest to. If you put all the control channels in one system your scannerl may try to lock onto a weaker control channel, leading to missed calls. Remember, in SmartZone the system will not assign a channel for a call if there are no units affiliated with that zone on that talkgroup.

Just program the system like a normal analog trunked system and the scanner will decode the Astro calls. The P25 system setting is for 9600 baud control channel systems such as Michigan and Phoenix/Mesa. Enter all the channels for the specific system for each system. For example you would enter all 10 channels for the northeast system.

If you join the BC396T Yahoo group someone has posted a Burlington Co / Camdem Co configuration. It will save you a lot of typing. You can then customize it to your liking.

Marv,

Are you using either the free Uniden software or the demo version of Butel's ARC396? I have fully-configured database files for BurlCo, just tell me which one you want...
