The state police are on MOT Type II 800 mhz trunked systems (see the RR database).

There are actually 3 systems (Troops A, B, & C which are south, north, & central, respectively) plus two additional troops (D & E) which are the Turnpike & GS Parkway (Which is which?). Many of the talk groups are simulcasted on 2 or more systems.

There are some digital talk groups but most are analog. With your '96', and depending on where you drive, you could probably get along by programming troops A & C in one bank and get everything (and then some) you wish to hear.

amp,

Troop D covers the New Jersey Turnpike

Troop E covers the Garden State Parkway

and overlooked was Troop F which performs Marine patrols

The Talk Group IDs are as follows:
North System:
27024 - Turnpike 3 Comm North - Newark Station
Central System:
53264 - Turnpike 1 Comm Central - Cranbury Station
South System:
26962 - Turnpike 2 Comm South - Moorestown Station

Turnpike Car to Car - 27056 (Common to all systems)
New Turnpike Talk Group (Use unknown) - 28240

We're all giving you this information assuming you are familiar with trunk radio systems.
If you aren't, post, and we will provide you with a link or links that explain how they work.

Please be aware that troops D and E do not have their own radio systems but are imbedded in the three existing troop trunked systems. From the TG standpoint, I have heard all of the Turnpike and Parkway talk groups in each of the three troop systems without problem. Moorestown (south) booms in on the northern troop sites.

Hey, even I screw up once in a while...

74,

You're almost right. I sit corrected. After a search of the SPNJ website, I've determined that my records were outdated and that Troop F does not exist any longer. Marine patrols are now handled by the Marine Services Bureau of the division's Special Operations Section (which is part of the Homeland Security Branch). Visit http://www.state.nj.us/lps/njsp/divorg/homelandsec/spops.html

Yes. There are talk groups for Newark Bay/Lake Hopatcong, Monmouth/Ocean County, Atlantic/Cape May County marine ops that have been incorporated in Troop A, B, and C systems. With the boating season coming upon us, there will be far more use of these TG's throughout the Summer.

Go to Yohoo P96 group. In the files section you will find NJ State Police Troop C file I just uploaded which includes the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway tags. This of course assumes you are using the Win96 software (It's the only way to go if you have a Pro 96). You can lock out everything but the Turnpike frequencies for easy listening during your travel. BTW, the NJSP is truncked but they are not digital.

For stevenmilford and/or anyone else interested, who may not know about it, here is the most comprehensive and up to date frequency and talk group information regarding the state trunk systems:

http://wc2em.net:8080/scanner/NJSP.pdf

Anyone who chooses to use this as a reference point should check it on a regular basis, as the author updates it whenever he receives new information. The "updated" date is always posted at the bottom of the cover page (first page). The title. ".....For Northern New Jersey" can be a bit misleading, as the file covers the entire state. Also, it's an Adobe PDF File so you will need to have Adobe Reader downloaded in order to access it. If you don't have it, you can download it for free.

He also has other files for various parts of the state as well as Pennsylvania which can be found here:

John Buracelli never fails to provide the most up-to-date and comprehensive listing of NJSP. His site should be in everyone;s memory system as an outstanding resource. Besides, he is a hellova nice guy.
