NC Viper system is also P25 Phase 1. What eaf1956 said above. Get an SDS200 or SDS100. I live a few hours away from you in New Bern and have both those scanners. My daughter lives in Charlotte and I take my SDS100 when I travel and it works fine there.

Hello hagensieker, I am new here and I know your reply here is 2 years old but I live in New Bern NC too and have been searching for New Bern PD codes when I came across your reply here. I know they are using digital now and I need to get a digital scanner. 2 question, 1) What digital scanner do you recommend for New Bern police and 2)Is there NBPD digital codes available?
Thanks!

While I can't help with ten codes, the system is a P25 Phase 1 trunked system, so the scanner will need to be able to handle that. However, another thing to consider is the state viper system will be requiring all agencies using the system to be Phase 2 capable in 2025, which indicates a change is likely in the next 3-5 years, so if you want a long term investment I'd make sure the scanner was P25 Phase 2 capable.

With only one site listed in the database I would think the Whistler TRX will work fine, the other option is the newer Uniden scanners (such as the 996P2, SDS series), this provides ability for both Phase 1 and 2. The frequencies and talkgroups are listed in the database. Hopefully, @hagensieker will offer better suggestions.

Hello, I used to fly on air medical based out of New Bern until 12/31/21 when I happily retired and my HP-2 and my 325p2 worked fine on that system. Good luck. Joe

You need to decide between a base, or mobile scanner.

These are two p2-capable base models: BCD996p2 n' SDS200

These are two p2-capable mobile models: BCD325p2 n'SDS100 scanner.

All four are made by Uniden.

Actually, the BCD325p2 and SDS-100 are called handhelds or portables. A mobile scanner is one that can be installed in a vehicle, and can double as a base model as well. You can take a handheld "mobile" so to speak, but the category of mobile scanner refers to something made to install and keep in a vehicle.

Handheld is what I meant.

It sounds like my 996XT and 396xt will be relegated to air monitoring in the next few years.

I looked at the features on both of them. Start saving for a p2-capable(325p2, 996p2, sds100, sds200) scanner. While I am 'hopelessly devoted' to my 325p2. In your case, the sds100/200(handheld/base), is what you should save for.
