I am new to scanning and want to be able to listen to the police and fire in my city of Maple Valley. I have a PRO-97 and the Northwest Frequency Directory. The listing for Maple Valley law enforcement gives me TG:23216 and TG:23248 which I know are talkgroup IDs right? My question is what is the actual frequency that I plug into my software? I am using WIN97 with my PRO-97. I just don't get what I do when they only list the TG. Thanks in advance.

Thanks I will try that. Now is that frequency part of a trunked system, or do I just add that in as one of the frequencies to scan. Sorry, just new and trying to figure it out.

you would need to add the control channels or all the freqs. from the King co. trunked system. I prefer adding all the freqs in a system that way not to miss anything.. then make sure you have it set to mot as the trunk type on win 97.. If you have any other questions message me on here and i can help ya..

Ok, I think I almost have this down. I probably already mentioned it but I am using WIN97 software to program my scanner. In that program under channels I should add all of the RED freqs down the list, but then what do I do about the talkgroups. Do they go into the box on the lower right where it says Alpha tag/ID/LOut? If so do I just put in the talkgroup IDs in the ID column? Sorry just two more questions as well.....do the numbers in the left hand table in WIN97 match with the numbers in the right lower table where the ID's go? And lastly, what do Delay, Atten, and LOut do if you black out their check box? Sorry for soo many questions, this stuff is just a little confusing for a newbie like me. Thanks again.

Here's a sample file to get you started. Download

If you turn a box black (as shown in Delay) instead of just white (as shown in Atten) it turns that feature on for that frequency or talkgroup. The Radio Shack manual and the Easier to Read PRO-97/2055 Manual explain what these features do.

Also, in Win97, don't worry about Splinter, custom trunking table, or fleet maps. Normal seems to work fine with King County's system; the custom trunking table isn't necessary, and fleetmaps only apply to Type I systems (Type II is in use).

Ok I am now getting most of the area fire and police channels and I have been listening and the talkgroup IDs that I have programed in when used show up with their alpha tag that I named them. I am getting a lot of other talkgroup ID's showing up that I don't have an alpha tag for because I didn't enter them in. My question is how do I figure out who I am listening to when I just get an ID tag such as 23152. I would like to be able to add alpha tags to these channels so that I can read on my scanner who I am listening to. The ones I already have such as 23216 displays Maple Valley Police, etc. Hopefully there is some way to look these up and name them. Its going to be hard to try and figure it out by what they are saying.

There is a box at the top and it has a place to put a checkmark. It says closed. this will close the bank to all TG ID's except for the ones you specifically input. You can read about that in the Pro-97 manual as well. Message me off list if ya need more info... I have 2 Pro-97's now, Just picked up another one on Ebay the other day for 88 Bucks! Brand spankin new! Buttons are still stiff.....

I'll send you a p97 file with what's on my scanner; I have quite a few South King County TG IDs on my scanner. They all came from the database here, but many of the labels are longer than 16 characters and mine have been shortened.
