From what I saw on my log today, Gun Barrel PD may be dispatched on the county's encrypted TG, and use the city's TG for talk-around. There were 6 short transmissions of < 10 seconds over a 4 hour period. If you heard nothing at all on TG 3015 today, it may be encrypted as well.
I suspect that Gun Barrel, being a small city, GBC may not have their own, dedicated, dispatcher. At least, not full time. On the city's web page is a link to a
form to request information on "After Hours Emergency Contact". They could be full time encrypted, with most dispatching, or at least 'after hours', being done on TGID 1004, listed as "West County PDs' dispatch by the Sheriff's office. That is listed as full time encrypted, so unless we get lucky, and catch a conversation in the clear, from what seems to definitely be a GBC officer, and record the radio's UID in logging. If we get lucky & determine at least one confirmed GBC radio's UID, then you may be able to at least see some of the activity, even though no clear audio, by seeing the UID come up on TGID 1004 (West County PDs) or TGID 3015, which is shown as assigned to GBC.
I have GBC set to flash yellow. I did see it flash and showed TG 3015, just a few seconds but heard nothing.
I still wonder what you, or EAFrizzle might see if you parked the scanner on either 1004. or 3015. With it sitting on the talkgroup, you still would not hear audio if encrypted, but with the scanner sitting on the talk group, you should see an indication that there is a transmission, with ENC shown on the display, along with the UID (radio's ID). If you are logging, via ProScan, you can look at the radio IDs captured, and sort them by the TGID it has used. I use that when trying to determine usage of unlisted talkgroups. If the UID often comes up on, say, as Dallas PD TGID, but also occasionally on a, so far, unknown TGID, then there's a hint that the talkgroup is used by PD for something not currently shown. The quote just below is what I'm suggesting.
With it scanning the Henderson County system, hit the Channel hold key and scroll to either TGID 1001, or 1004. Holding on one of those talkgroups, if there is a transmission, you would probably not hear the audio, since it is encrypted, but you may see a tag in the display for ENC, indicating that the voice traffic is encrypted. If they only use encryption, you will not hear clear audio regardless of which antenna you use, or how it's programmed. If you are hearing the fire departments in the area, on the system. that verifies that you can receive them, but the scanner will not pass encrypted audio.
I wish I could get mine set up to work correctly, that's another problem I have. I get some kind of speaker error.
What kind of audio problem are you seeing?
Also, if you're interested, you should have good reception on the Kaufman County system, as well as the Ellis County portion of
NTIRN. You could add them, and assign a quick key to make it easier to toggle them on & off.
While, so far, the new system is not 'live', once Van Zandt County gets their new
system up and fully functioning, you may well be able to hear it as well. The fire departments in your area probably work together on fires, especially wild fires, that are either on (or near) the county lines, or that have grown larger & mutual aid is needed.
