Need help w/ programming BDC396XT, have downloaded county/systems needed, The radio is scanning, showing "ID search" over & over, not picking up on any channel.

Used "bcTool" to access the scanner, have verified the verious talkgroups are showing on the computer.

Downloaded FL , Charlotte County Public services, Motorola trunking system.

Thanks in advanced for any help.

The odd thing I'm seeing on the scanner it showing a freq 853.6625 , which is not in the download for this area. The Freq's are ...

851.12500, 851.17500, 851.21250, 851.26250, 851.31250, 851.56250, 851.81250, 852.03750, 852.06250, 852.31250' 853.40000c, 853.65000c, 853.85000c, 853.90000c

Not sure why that one is showing, the current control channel is 853.6500c. Any ideas ?

Where is it showing that frequency?

If you go into the site for that system is that frequency in the radio?

Never used "bctool". Does it download from RR?

I think we need more info to help you out.

Where is it showing that frequency? Below the ID SEARCH , above the "SO" line. When I press hold, the control channel shows up, Currently it's 853.4000. ( at midnight they change control channels )

If you go into the site for that system is that frequency in the radio? It's not part of the Charlotte county system.

Never used "bctool". Does it download from RR? It's software that some "old timers" might know of. It lets you access the RR database .
I tried to download "freescan" , couldn't get it to run.

file for charlotte cty

Charlotte County is a rebanded system. Have you input the rebanding information. SO Search is not really bad as you scan tg's that you have entered and any othjer talk groups that are received will show. For couple of weeks , run in search mode, make note of the talk groups that show. You can enter those, then set your radio to SCAN ID mode. ID Search falls off, or out of the radio. Freesan should download for you. 2.18 thats the beta version. Attached is a small Charlotte Cty file, Its zipped, per RR requirements.

Charlotte cty does not have a 853.6625 frequency. They havbe .650 and .850. There is a frequency in Sarasota cty. 853.675. On 853.6625 you might be getting a strong signal overlap from either Charlotte or Sarasota cty.

BCTOOL does not have a reband option, thats why you are not picking up anything I think. The last the software was updated was back in 2010, according to their website. Freescan, ARCXT , would be upto date. I started to create a file, then looked for a reband table and could find one.

Yes BCTOOL accepts your RR id and importing works but withour rebanding, you will be off in what your scanner detects,

I can't get freescan to work, getting an error "To run this application, you must first install one of the following versions of the .NET Framework: v4.0.30319"

I have no idea what that means.

Oh, go to the browser, type in net 4.0 framework, you will go to a microsoft site and there is the download. No big deal, doersn't hurt a thing. LOAD FRAMEWORK , THEN DO fREESCAN AGAIN. I forget that Framework is needed. just something that gets Freescan to work.

As the Choir sings "hallelujah", glad to help, hope my Freescan files helped too.. Its like a light has just went off when the scanner starts to function. All the many hours or trial and mostly error and no response. Never asked but the cable you are using, was it the serial to mini usb or did you opt for a usn to mini usb cable because getting the cable recognized by Freescan, is a major task at first.

Actually brought out my old laptop runing XP that had a serial connector, so no issues with trying to use usb. I've read here how that has been tough to get working.

On the original issue, you may be picking up another system, and it's showing the voice channels (frequencies) for that system rather than the one you want. Make sure you have the control channels for the system you want programmed in and ONLY the control channels (and alternates) for that system or you risk locking on another system that uses the voice channels as their control channels.

Voyager, I looked up 853.6625, and did a county frequency report and could come up with nothing that had that frequency.I looked in adjacent counties and found nothing. Now I am not sure he had rebanding set, and if not set, would that frequency show. Thats the only explanation that I could come up with. I believe he finally got Freescan to load and accept information, along with rebanding information. Using BCTool, I could not find where Rebanding info was imported or a manual operation to create a rebanding table.

My point however was that the voice-only channels are not needed, and can cause issues - rebanded or not. All that is needed is: 853.40000c, 853.65000c, 853.85000c, 853.90000c

oh, I guess I program all the frequencies for a site rather than the control channels. Importing from RR, you get all, or at least I have been, but I will try what you suggest.

If this is a Motorola (IOW, a Non-P25) system, make sure the Control Channel Only option is enabled. That way the scanner will scan just like the radios on the system (they are only programmed with the control channels, too). The only exception to this is an implicit P25 system, but those are rather rare and require custom tables to be programmed (one frequency per table).
