I'm new to the group and could use some local guidance. I'm moving from NW new Jersey to Fletcher NC. I've been a Ham Radio operator for almost 60 years but I'm only familiar with analog scanner reception. From what I can see, Henderson Co. NC communications is all encrypted. I was thinking of purchasing a new SDS200....but will there be anything to listen to in Henderson or Buncombe Co. ? Thanks in advance ! Lee K2BLC

Check the database:

Someone local can better answer your question.

The main thing to check is the MODE column.

If the is an E or an e , it's encrypted and cannot be monitored.

The SDS scanners are a good choice.

Good luck!

Just took a quick glance, other than the Henderson County NXDN 4800 system.
There appears to be limited encryption on the other systems, primary law enforcement
There's clear analog and digital stuff to monitor.

Buncombe County has lots to listen to , do some looking around on the database for this county. Some stuff you can even still use an analog scanner. Also check out NC VIPER for this county.
