I have a BC785D Uniden Scanner with the APCO P-25 Digital Card installed. I have tryed and tryed to set this thing up to hear the Indiana State Police (Bremen and other close districts) I have read the instructions numerous times, with very little luck. Every once in a while I do hear some traffic, however I can not hear all of this traffic. Is there somone out there who could possibly make this easy for me to figure out.
I am felling pretty stupid, after having conventional scanners all of my life.

hello- do you have all of the channels programmed in? if the system is big. there maybe more than one data channel. as i am not from that area, i cant tell you more than that, except that the digital card is a no brainer. if its digital -it decodes it regardless of what uniden tech support may tell you.

if you dont have alot of channels programmed,(hopefully backed up with software) you can do a reset.

hold 2 9 manual/hold in while turning the radio on.

sometimes static electricity can make the card not decode but in my experience this is pretty rare.

one more thing- did you change the audio quality settings? if you did, you may want to put then back to the original settings.

hope this helps

Thanks for you input I need all the help I can get.

I have all of the channels for several different antenna locations within a fifty mile radius. I did notice that there is a different data channel for every antenna site. All of these data channels have been programmed into the same bank on my scanner, along with the normal channels. I have them labeled per antenna location.
Also the digital card does decode. I can hear portions of the traffic if I am not in the trunked mode. In other words I hear alot more traffic in conventional scan with the digital card enabled. Now dont take this wrong, I have also heard some traffic in trunking mode, however not nearly as often.
I have not backed anything up nor do I have a cable to link the scanner to the computer. Do you recomend this? Could you advise of a possible supplier to get this cable and software from?
I also do not believe that I changed the audio quality settings.
Thank You!

what you want to do- go to your local computer store and buy a db9 female to db9 male . this is provided you have a serial port on your computer.
there are lots of software out there. my favorite is scancat gold from computer aided technoligies. you can try out this software by going to

www.scancat.com

i would back up everthing you have and then separate the different systems with their current data channels into different banks. remember there can be only one data channel per bank. if you need to know what ids are on different data channels, try scancat gold se. it has a modilw in it thats called cat trunker. this will follow the data as it is found with out programming the whole system in (data chanel only). that way you can see what ids are on each data channel.

hope this helps

If I remember right, you can only have one control channel in each bank.

You can only have one SYSTEM in each bank, and a system has anywhere from 2-4 control channels.

Put all your Control Channels for the system you want in 1 bank and set your CC Type (1-4) as shown in your manual.

You can only TRUNK one system per bank. You can program as many systems as will fit though.

SO DO I EVEN NEED TO PROGRAM ALL OF THE CHANNELS OR JUST THE CONTROL CHANNELS PERIOD.
AND I NEED A LITTLE MORE OF AN EXPLAINATION ON CC TYPE (1-4)

Yes, you're correct, I have 3 systems in each bank of my 796D (I travel a whole lot), but for someone just learning, it might be easier to start with one system per bank, as it's going to stop on the first CC it finds.

None of the systems that I have in the same bank are any closer than 50 miles near one another, so I don't have to worry about potentially be able to pick up the CC from more than one system in each bank.

You can set up the scanner for "control channel only," and when it's set to this mode, you only need to enter the control channels.

My BC796D Owners Manual said:
For 800MHz systems, you need to selected the band plan for the system.

PLAN 1
Use if the last three digits of all of the frequencies used by the system end in 125, 375, 625, or 875.

PLAN 2
Use if the highest frequency used by the system is above 866MHz and if the last three digits end in 000, 125, 250, 375, 500, 625, 750, or 875.

PLAN 3
Use if the last three digits of all the frequencies in the system end in 000, 250, 500, or 750.

PLAN 4
Use if the highest frequency in the system is below 866MHz and if the last three digits end in 000, 125, 250, 375, 500, 625, 750, or 875.

Hope this helps...
