I recently purchased an Diamond D-3000n Discone antenna(its 2dbi) to set up outdoors on my roof. I have a 6.5 ft. J pole mast and was planning to set on my roof at the highest point , I have a lightning suppressor and plan to ground it to a 24" in ground copper pole ,I live in Walnut Creek in the California Bay Area(so we do not have a lot of thunderstorms maybe 1-3 a year and that estimate is on the higher side) my home is 1 story home with taller 2 story homes and taller trees on either side of me and directly behind my house by, the nearest power line is about 25-30ft. from my where my antenna will be mounted. The highest point of my roof is 18-20 ft high and Im adding 6.5 ft of mast, so maybe the total antenna height is 25ft. or so. I was all set up to install and I got worried that this antenna will be a lightning rod. I realize if the antenna is hit even with a grounded suppressor my radio or radios will be fried, what I am most concerned about is IF I receive a lighting strike is my house burning down, should I be worried ? Those of you that have outdoor antennas have you had any issues or problems from the outdoor antenna ? Is there another type of mounting not on the roof that anybody would recommend ? Any insight or advice offered would be greatly appreciated. Thank You .

8ft and any new rods must be bonded to the house main ground rod at the AC entry panel with no less than 6ga copper wire. If the AC panel is not far from where the coax will enter then use a lightning arrestor there and bond it to the main AC entry panel ground.
