Monitoring this system with the PSR-500 but don't think I am getting all of the traffic? Using control channel only and have all of the control channels installed. Audio sometimes comes in garbled.
Can anyone recommenced settings for the PSR-500 digital settings that will tune it better for this system.
I have heard you can tweak the threshold settings on the scanner to improve reception?
Right now have it set on auto...
Thanks,
Tom

You may be to far to hear the system. With P25 they can now run low power vs analog. You need to have a 3 bar strength on the control frequency in order to hear it real good. I would play with the antenna before I would change the threshold settings.

I really don't think you are too far from Nellis as I can recieve the system all over the valley. What type of antenna are you using and do you have any of the talkgroups programmed in. Most of what I hear is the ground units ie Nellis PD,FD flt operations and other things on the flight line. Which set of frequencies are you using? The addres below is very good site, most of us purchase the Southern Nevada Scanner Book from AES which also covers the valley as well as Nellis. The newest book is due to come out in mid-Feb.

I have no problem at all with the system from Henderson. My DG INT Prime is set at 20. I also have heard some garbled but the tgid shows it as a Security Police user and radio id. Not surprised they are using encryption. What antenna are you using? If mobile try the RS deluxe handheld duckie, or the telescope with the coil model. I have tried them all and anything but the GRE supplied antenna works just fine on that system. If you are base setup you should try looking at this thread, http://www.radioreference.com/forums/antenna-forum/33753-off-center-fed-vhf-uhf-vertical-dipole.html
the Off Center Fed Dipole really works great for me on the NNSA system. Bandwidth increased a bunch.
If you are really close to the base within a mile or so definitely turn on the ATT.
Also check with Nevada Trunking Systems and make sure you have all the correct control channels.
Tables I use are LO 380 Hi 710 offset 380 base 406.1 step 12.5 Lo 710 Hi 759 offset 710 base 410.5 step 25.0
One last thing check for the loose screw inside your scanner (discussed in the gre forum)

Hope this helps!!

Threshold High - Low

I have no idea what this does. The guy that setup my GRE-500 on the Roanoke,Co. VA Digital he set the Threshold High on 95. And the Low on 75. I know one thing I hate Digital. Roanoke City transmits from the same sights and I hear them fine. I'm going to try a yagi 806-900 mhz and try to fix the garble. I can't see the near sight from my house 4 miles away, but I can see the Fort Lewis sight 14 miles away. I'll let everyone know what happens. And help would be great! E-Mail perry2638@cox.net
