Thought I'd pass this along. One of the folks in our club put one of those nerf foam bullets on the coax for his mag mount. Positioned it where the car door closes. No more feedline pinch.

Someone comes on and posts something that they think would be helpful, and the first two responses are QRZ type. SMH. BTW, this is AMATEUR radio, just a hobby.

I much prefer permanent antenna installations and the NMO mount is my hands down favorite. That being said, I do own a couple of mag mounted antennas for those times that NMO mounts are a no go. ( Rental vehicles for example) As such, I think it's fair to not give Golay too much grief for just passing along a bit of information. I'm sure he wasn't suggesting the idea for a permanent installation.

I use a Diamond motorized mount on a rack rail. This allows me to lower the antenna and park in my garage. Even a 1/4 wave height antenna would rake the garage door going in and out.

I could have raised/lowered a fold-over antenna by hand twice a day and used an NMO mount, but that gets old real quick. Anyways, over a decade now and zero coax or leak problems. I run the coax vertically versus a hard angle into the vehicle.

Happy to test my setup versus an NMO mount if you’re in the neighborhood. Experimenting is my favorite part of amateur radio. Happy to test against a “professional” setup as well.
