Thought I would share a problem that is getting on my nerves. :x I have a router to connect up to other computers on the home network. These cables are acting like a transmitting antenna.I'm getting noise throughout the HF spectrum.I'm using Cat5 cable.I think switching to shielded cable should work to fix the problem.I would have to special order it however(expensive). The guy at the computer store said switching to Cat5E would take care of the problem, but I'm not so sure.Have any of you experienced this problem, and how did you remedy it?

I have a Netgear wireless router running from my cable modem. After some experimentation, and reading on the forums, I realized it was causing a lot of RF noise.

But, if I run the cable straight into the computer and avoid the wireless router (power it off), there is little to no interference and the scanner works fine.

Might wanna check your router...

Thanks..yeah,shutting the router off gets rid of the interference. With the router on,and lan cables disconnected,it's fine too.Reconnecting any of the lan cables starts the problem again.I'm kinda screwed because I need the router to connect the kids up.

I've found a few distant spots at the other end of the house where I can use a scanner and reduce interference from the router.

As far as the cabling goes, I don't know much about that. Someone else on here will probably jump in.

Good luck!

Cat5E has a tighter and more consistant twist , which might help some.
Sheilded Cat5 might lalso help.

LAN cables are a pain, as they make noise and are sensitive to noise.

Maybe wireless is the way to go.

What is the make and model of the router?

Did you plug the ends of the drops yourself? If you have really bad NEXT and FEXT you might be opening up the plugs to be radiators.
