Interesting... MCSO is way overdue for a upgrade and digital secure talk groups. Is anyone else using TAIT? I'd hate for the government to pick the cheapest system and get a lemon. Fire agencies south and east, Woodburn PD and Stayton PD really need a upgrade too. Lots of hills around with RX/TX issues right now.

the Kenwood/EFJ Radios are also a solid alternative radio to those radios. the down side with the 700 stuff is how may sites will need to be built to do the same coverage as the current VHF System let alone improve on the system but that's my 2 cents on it and there is research to back up my thoughts. now there are benefits to the 700 system mainly access to more available frequency's but not much else. i do agree that some of the systems need an upgrade but maby not a band change that will require new radios for everyone including adjacent districts

Vhf is always a better choice, but, do to the lack of Vhf frequencies, most vendors will strongly suggest 700/800 Mhz systems. And yes, it means that more sites are needed to get the coverage of the current system.

agreed but there are other options out there besides trunked systems so they could still uses there current frequency's and just say for example do what Polk co did and upgraded mostly in place and just went digital. but yes a lot of vendors will strongly push for a 7/800mhz system even as expensive as they can be for a few reasons one its a total swap-out for new equipment that means more stuff to be sold and they make more money. two is it is simpler to find those frequency's rather than hunt for vhf or uhf freq that can used. some of the other push is so they can be like the big city's and big systems like whats in LA, NYC, and even in Portland some areas it is just overkill like down in south Marion co its just not that busy to need that kind of system, they need coverage over capacity in my eyes at least.
